Getting Started

What is Calvin?

A photo-first calorie tracker. Snap a meal and our AI estimates calories, protein, carbs, and fat. Or log by typing, scanning a barcode, or searching our food database.

How do I sign in?

Sign in with Apple, Google, or a passwordless email link. No password to remember. Your account works the same on iOS and the web.

Logging Food

How accurate is photo logging, and how can I improve it?

Each item gets a 0–100% confidence score. To improve accuracy, take well-lit photos from above with everything visible, and add a short note for hidden oil, dressing, or large portions before submitting. Tap any item to edit. Your corrections also improve future results. For a guaranteed match, use barcode or search.

Daily Tracking

How do I view past days?

The History tab shows a color-coded calendar. Green hit your goal, yellow was close, red was significantly over or under. Tap any date to view the full day. Free accounts see the last 7 days; Pro sees all history.

How are streaks and Days Active calculated?

Streak: consecutive days with at least one entry in your timezone. Missing a day resets it. Days Active: total unique days you've ever logged on; never resets.

Goals & Insights

How is my calorie target calculated?

We estimate maintenance calories with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (height, weight, age, gender, activity), then adjust for your goal. Per Harvard Health guidance, we won't go below a 1,200 kcal floor for women or 1,500 kcal for men without an explicit override.

What insights does Calvin show me?

Free: weekly summaries with habit patterns, macro breakdowns, and a list of new foods you've logged. Pro adds AI recommendations, deeper macro trend analysis, food-category insights, and longer-range forecasts.

Notifications

How do I manage email notifications?

Calvin sends a weekly report and occasional re-engagement emails. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe; manage preferences in Settings > Notifications > Email.

Subscription

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free covers everyday logging (photos, text, barcode, search) with the last 7 days of history and basic insights. Pro adds full history, advanced insights and weight predictions, priority processing, data export, and a much larger ceiling on AI photo analyses. $9.99/month or $79.99/year (save 33%) after a 7-day free trial.

What is priority processing?

Pro photos jump the analysis queue and route to our more capable model more aggressively when confidence is borderline. Faster results and better accuracy on tricky meals.

How does the free trial work?

Pro starts with 7 days of full access at no charge. Cancel any time during the trial and you won't be billed.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Pro is sold through the App Store. Cancel from iOS Settings > [Apple ID] > Subscriptions > Calvin. You keep access through the period. For refunds, request through reportaproblem.apple.com, or email support@calvin.vip if you're stuck.

How do referrals work?

Settings > Refer Friends has your unique code. When someone signs up with it and completes onboarding, you both get a free week of Pro.

Privacy & Account

Is my data secure?

Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and photos sit in private buckets only your account can read. We never sell personal data, and only share with the providers needed to run Calvin (hosting, AI, payments, email, crash reporting). Full details in our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my data?

Settings > Privacy & Data > Your Data > Export Data builds a downloadable archive of your profile, entries, goals, weight history, and water log. The link is valid for 7 days.

How do I delete my account?

Settings > Account > Delete Account starts a 30-day grace period. Cancel during that window and your account is restored. After 30 days everything is permanently deleted.

Can I use Calvin on multiple devices?

Yes. Sign in with the same email on iPhone, iPad, or the web and entries sync across devices in seconds. Sign Out is at the bottom of Settings; your data stays in the cloud.

How do I change my email address?

Email support@calvin.vip from your current address and we'll move your account over manually so nothing is lost.

Is Calvin medical advice?

No. Calvin's estimates help you build awareness around what you eat. Not diagnose or treat anything. Consult a qualified professional for personal guidance, especially with food allergies, diabetes, kidney disease, or a history of disordered eating.

Troubleshooting

I can't sign in.

Email links expire, so request a new one and check spam. For Apple or Google sign-in, use the same identity you originally signed up with. Still stuck? Email support@calvin.vip.

I hit a rate limit. How long until it resets?

Daily limits reset at midnight in your timezone; per-minute limits reset within 60 seconds. The error message includes the exact retry time. Pro raises both limits substantially.

Shoot from above in good light with everything visible. Add a short note for hidden oil, dressings, or large portions.

Consistency beats perfection

Logging every day. Even a single entry. Keeps your streak alive and gives Calvin enough data to surface useful insights.

Edit before it adds up

Tap and adjust as soon as a portion looks off. Quick corrections beat confusing trends, and your edits improve future accuracy.

Reuse meals you eat often

Save go-to meals to Favorites or Copy to Today on past entries. Faster than re-photographing the same lunch.
